We all know people’s teeth and gums are different from one another. Some gums are low, some are high and there are some in between of both.
However, if your confidence is low, we are here to change it. We have ways of reshaping your gums. Ways which consist of comfort, easiness, and painless treatments.
Gum corrections are part of the safest surgical procedure in dentistry and they have a really low risk of infection. As per their name, they consist of fixing the gums and/ or reshaping them, giving them the “even” look.

The way your gums (known in the dentistry world as gingivae) look and their health is highly dependent on factors like your genes, your oral hygiene, and your lifestyle. Gum issues like asymmetric gums, a gummy smile, or uneven gums are simply genetic. Modern and advanced cosmetic dentistry has made it possible for these issues to be corrected with minimally invasive treatment. What gum graft treatment can be used for is to treat receding gums. Tooth sensitivity isn’t the only medical issue gum recession can cause, it can also be aesthetically unpleasant. The most common complaints from patients included are that their teeth roots are highly exposed creating what is called “long in the tooth”, or the presence of “black triangles” in between the teeth, where interdental gum has disappeared, leaving large gaps.
These complaints don’t only have to do with the way teeth look but also with their functionality, food traps are one of the most usual problems. Knowing that gums can not regenerate themselves, surgical correction has been found to the new creation and solution to replace gum tissue that has been lost.
To correct gum recession there exist two methods:
This is the procedure during which the dentist removes the graft from the palate and introduces it into the gum or between the gums. The dentist could also decide on artificial grafts so they do not use a graft from your palate.
At the removal site, from where the graft is taken, remains a small open wound. However, this small wound quickly healed and the risk of infection is really low. When only connective tissues are used for the transplant, the wound on the palate can be sutured with residual gingiva.
The whole procedure is done under the influence of local anesthesia and even though it is a complex procedure, it only takes around 45 minutes to one hour to be done.
After the procedure, you might have trouble brushing your teeth for four to six weeks, but it is something our staff will help you with by giving you instructions and advice.
If there is enough attached gingiva below the receding gum, the exposed tooth root can be covered without the need for a transplant from the palate to be removed. This is known as a “gum lift”.
The first step of the procedure is where a part of the gum tissue is split from the underlying bone. Afterward, the tissue is gently pulled upwards towards the enamel margin of the tooth and fixed there. Special little cuts take the tension off the gum flap. The newly placed gums are then fixed with stitches so they can have space to heal. The procedure is a painless one, considering it is done under local anesthesia.
A smile is called gummy when too much visible is visible to the high muscle pull. For your smile to be the perfect one, it is a must to have all factors that dictate it following one another. The factors that dictate a beautiful smile are your teeth, your gums, lips, and jaws. If the condition of a gummy smile is genetic then it is impossible to prevent it, but there exist ways to correct it.
Gummy smiles come as a result of many reasons like a genetically small upper lip, teeth too small compared to the gum due to wear or genetics, enlarged gums, overgrown upper jaw, or when teeth may not be fully erupted and remain partially covered by gum tissue.
The right treatment for a gummy smile depends entirely on what is causing it:
Stillmann Cleft means gum loss which is caused by a mechanic or traumatic injuries. Your gums may have been hurt by brushing too hard and causing receding gums. In these cases, your dentist recommends a treatment plan that involves two gum grafts to solve the problem.
The first graft is the one that establishes the damaged tissue, whilst the second graft is concentrated on raising a small flap in the palatal side of the upper jaw and removing a small part of the underlying tissue known as the connective tissue graft.
These are small procedures that will fix the situation going on and will prevent gums from any further disease or recession.
The upper part of the gums next to the neck of the tooth is used massively during chewing and it is attached to the underlying bone and the tooth. Grinding your teeth or accidents and traumas might lead to the loss of these tissues, especially around dental implants. Consequently, bacteria might enter through the gum and cause inflammation and gum diseases.
To fix the gum a flap is lifted in the upper jaw and afterward, a bit of the skin is removed and transplanted to the lower jaw. Due to the procedure being done fully under local anesthesia the pain is close to zero.
There are different reasons why a person can feel self-conscious about his/her smile. Sometimes the reason is as small as a slightly uneven gumline. Gum reshaping can be used to correct that: using gingivectomy or laser gum contouring under local anesthesia. Gum reshaping is one of the safest procedures and has a remarkably low risk of infection.
In some cases, the filling material used to fill dental roots diffuses into the soft tissue and colors the teeth giving them a silver/ grey color. Thanks to a small surgical procedure, the discolored tissue can be removed and a graft from the roof of the mouth (palate) can replace the missing tissue.
Excessive gum growth is mainly caused by medication. The following are some of the medications that cause medication-induced gum:
The most effective treatment in such cases is the withdrawal and substitution of the medication. When this type of treatment is done and the body is revoked of these medications, it takes from one to eight weeks for the gum to resolve back to its original condition.
